a rose by many other names

a rose by many other names
a rose by many other names

this posy posting will feature another favorite flower of mine…the rose!

I actually have favorites within the favorite so to speak!

where do I start with the rose??

red rose first- this one is called Freedom

look at all those layers of petals…

Roses come in so  many other colors and varieties

like the dreamy Creme de la Creme

 isn’t it romantic?

and the Green Tea rose  for you health nut types

Here is my new favorite rose

It has at least a couple of names…Circus

and Ambiance are two that I’ve heard.

(I think Circus suits it best)

How about the amazing Malibu rose?

We did a wedding job a few years ago

for a wonderful, sweet and beautiful bride

where we used a lot of Malibu roses

And she looked like a Barbie doll ;)

We called her the “Malibu Barbie” bride

A  wrist corsage for Prom made with pink spray roses

And one made with white  spray roses…

We have lots of pretty roses this week

for Mother’s Day! And it’s not too late even for delivery!

Oh, by the way we have more than roses, too

  LOTS MORE!

thanks to Picture this by MJ & Krystle Akin for the pics of Tara's flowers.

A junkin’ we did go-

A junkin’ we did go-
A junkin’ we did go-

A few weeks ago, Mr. Bob & I went on a junkin’ and

relaxing trip to the “mountains” of Arkansas….

And found many a treasure :)

not just the natural treasures of “the natural state”

it  sure is a beautiful area, and close to East Texas,

yet you feel like you are so far away!

we spent the first rather chilly night at the Mt. Magazine Lodge

and ate a delicious breakfast at the Skyview Restaurant

then headed up north to shop at the big to-do on Highway 22

a yearly ‘endless’ yard sale stretching down about 75 miles

of highway 22 in northwest central Arkansas

there were treasures and fabulous finds all up and down the highway-

 from Fort Smith to Dardanelle,

through sleepy little towns like

Paris & Subiaco

as well as  Charleston and Danville

we found quite a few treasures....

and met some nice folks…

here I am pictured with Tiffany of

Tiffany’s Bed & Breakfast, outside Hot Springs

she will take good care of you!

we picked up some great bargains…like the yellow bed

and learned a new phrase -

High Tech Red-Neck

 that’s Mr Bob…he’s not high tech,though :)

all of this junkin' was for a higher goal, as it were:)

 not just relaxing

you see- I need vintage and antique items for my flower shop

because I am moving  the flower girl to a new location!!

by the end of this month, the Flower Girl shop will be by

Ye Olde City Antique Mall

my new address is 304 A Locust St. Tyler, Texas 75702

my phone number is the same

903 509 3839

so drop by my current shop for a shopping discount card…

or come see me in June downtown!

Don’t forget MOM this Mother’s Day!!

See you soon for a posy posting &

Happy Mom’s Day!

Kayla and Kalynne

Kayla and Kalynne
Kayla and Kalynne

For today’s Wedding Wednesday,

its a double feature!

Kalynne &

Kayla

the two K’s …2 of the most creative and original brides

the flower girl has ever had the privilege  of working with!!

both were married this April at

Stone Oak Ranch near Tyler

And both chose to feature  aspects of their

groom’s job in the wedding decor’

For Kayla...her man is a pilot...
and she featured vintage look boarding passes and suitcases
as well as maps and an old model airplane..

For Kalynne, her sweetie is a photographer

an old book on photography

and she included vintage cameras and framed table numbers…

Both brides loved the muted vintage flowers and tones

Kalynne’s bouquet included peonies, rice flower,

lisanthus, orchids and roses

while Kayla's bouquet was a soft ivory and cream mixture
of Creme de la Creme roses, white stock and astilbe,
with white peonies wrapped with burlap and lace

Kayla’s bridesmaid’s flowers included peach stock, astilbe

scabiosa pods and Creme de la Creme roses and a single peony!

Mother’s tussy mussy with faded soft colors…

the 2 K’s used flowers, vintage and hand crafted items

for one-of-a-kind centerpieces-

sewing pattern flowers and lace gloves

 &

scales, pearls and print blocks

also vintage bottles and books

the A is for her new last name

love the “bib”

Kayla's scrabble letters spelling out where they sit for dinner...

a few more snaps of the 2 wedded K’s

mr. and mrs. arrick- photos from Brandi Burkett Photography

mr. and mrs. varnell -photos from Lisa Potter (reflexion)

Both were BEAUTIFUL Brides!

the K’s each made paper wreaths/medallions for the walls

which is SO IMPRESSIVE-

I’ve made them and they are time intensive and not as easy

as they look….Kalynne’s were round rolled paper medallions

seen on the wall behind the cake

And Kayla made rolled paper wreaths

with map-covered initials in the middle

   Congratulations and God’s blessings to

both the Arrick’s and the Varnell’s

what talented women and what lucky hubbys!

Posey Postings

Posey Postings
Posey Postings

I KNOW its Tuesday and Tablescape day!!

However, I have made an executive decision and decided
that Today will be the first of many Posey Postings.

Which will just be about my favorite flowers….

One by One

for this premiere posey post….

the Peony

  the traditional flower of China

                                                                                       pronounced:

“Pee oh Knee”

this beauty is from my Yard! The first one ever!

They do grow in Texas,

you just have to wait about 4 or 5 years for them to bloom..:(

I arranged this one from my yard

with some light pink

“Sarah Bernhardt” peonies I had

from Easter, as well as some orchids,

on a mirror tray with cut glass containers.

here is the real Sarah Bernhardt….she was a Shakespearean actress back in the day.

and here is a open Sarah B. peony

What’s not to LOVE??

she is ruffled and fluffy and frilly and fragrant… sigh… & pink!

above photo-she is with lime green gladiolas

the cut glass and mirror setting

mini cymbidium orchids

and more glances at the perfectly pink petals

For all my readers.. an invite to Geisha!!

It’s tomorrow night, Wednesday April 18th @ 8:30 p.m. and is FREE!!
at Wagstaff Gym on the Tyler Junior College campus.

my son Victor is on this Drumline

(I know it has nothing to do with Peonies, but the poster colors matched)

I hope to see you there

 …think peonies…think Pink..

and get ready to be WOWED!!

Will be announcing our Tax Week giveaway in the next couple
of days- as always, thanks for stopping by!

I think these are peonies on this vase? What do you think?

Modge Podge a Box or Two

Modge Podge a Box or Two

Here is a great way to repurpose a shoe box, sturdy cardboard box, or storage box that may have lost its pizzaz. You will need:

  • Modge Podge

  • Paint brush

  • Paper towels or damp washcloth

  • Scrapbook paper

  • Box

Most of the scrapbook paper I purchased for this product was on clearance at Hobby Lobby. Always look in the clearance first! You never know what you’ll find there! :) You can see by the price, I think the most that I paid was .44 and I think that was for the paisley patterned paper.

This diy is so simple, even your toddler can do it! (well, not quite, but almost:)

Basically, the steps are:

1.) Tear scrapbook paper into various sizes (or you may cut it if you want a clean look)

2.)Dip paint brush into Modge Podge and paint onto a piece of scrapbook paper.

3.) Paste onto box.

4.) Repeat. A lot. This is a great mindless diy to do while watching t.v.

5.) Because I was using a box that had some metal handles and corners, I did have to do some special tearing and cutting when I got to those parts of the box.

6.) Once box is covered, go over the whole box one more time with a final coat of Modge Podge.

7.) Let dry. Store something in it. Display it somewhere nice!

At times, the paper/Modge Podge combo. makes for a wrinkly texture. To avoid this, use your finger or thumb to smooth it out after you have pasted the paper onto the box.

don’t knock the wearing off diy manicure ;)

And, TA-DAH, here is the finished product:

(Here, you can see the old interior. This was an Old Navy box from the late 90′s. I’ve kept it forever because of it’s great basic structure and neat handles.)

Another thing about pretty boxes? They accomplish two purposes that are very useful in a small space- storage and decor all in one! Brilliant!

Blue on Blue

Blue on Blue
Blue on Blue

I don’t really have the blues,

but my Hallway  buffet does!

If only I had a BEFORE picture of this

white buffet/dresser -

you would not believe the transformation!

It had not been painted since it was in my Grandmother's house...
say about 1989 or so... and one of our dogs chewed the top right corner ;(
My wonderful, talented hubby painted it, sanded and refinished the oak top and-

Then he built a base for it to raise

it up to a serving buffet height!

It has this huge and beautiful, carved mirror on it!

I changed  out the knobs to some vintage-looking

glass ones that I got at First Monday in Canton,Tx .

Then I  dressed it up with a blue on  blue collection of vintage postcards,
Hull vases and an old soap stand bowl.

I know my guestbook register is pink…

I am NOT getting another one ’til it’s filled,

so come see me!

More looks at this hallway vignette

forget- me- nots postcard

top of the dresser/buffet’s carving…

some of the detail of the old wash basin

these amazingly blue berries are from my leather

leaf mahonia bush-

it is so rare to see this color blue in nature!

and an old chippy blue rose print hangs on the wall-
I am so sad I did not get a picture of the painting above it!

You see – my daughter Lindsay painted our house in the

snow, you can only see the bottom edge of it..

I ended this post kinda BLUE, didn’t I?

Come back next week….TAX week…will be announcing our

local give-away

It is a bit different than the past give-aways.

I was in  Feathered Nest Fridays at

http://frenchcountrycottage.blogspot.com/

Thanks for visiting today!
