Fall Comes to the Flower Girl

Fall Comes to the Flower Girl

This Tuesday Tablescape is a bit of a detour, still about dressing tables, but it’s at my shop!

Recently I decided to bring Fall to the Flower Girl Shop-

even though it was still in the UPPER ninety’s :{

I began with my windows…WHAT to do with my windows??

I wanted LIGHT to come through, I wanted CHEAP and I wanted EASY and QUICK.

Here’s what my funky brain came up with:

LEAVES, fake ones from the Dollar Store, glued together to form leaf streamers.

Hung from the window tops, they look great, letting in light and casting a faint Fall glow everywhere.

(You will just have to trust me on the glow factor)

Next I began to ‘scape the table-

using a rusty-red rooster, cute Retro tray and English clay pots

that are from Great Stuff by Paul.

Then for height, I placed orange paper parasols in a black urn-

which I purchased at Paul Michael’s in Canton,Texas.

that’s two great Paul companies!

Now finally, for the total table scape, you’ll see

a vintage picnic basket, an old candy display wood shelf, little faux pumpkins

a bird house, wire stands, more English pots ,dried flowers-

all hanging out on my round  twice -purchased table!

You see, I sold the table at a yard sale, after buying it from my dear friend Lynn.

That was when we only had one dining area and had outgrown the table.

I was sad to see it go, it is a neat table with a hefty center pedestal.

Then, a few years later when we built our new house, I needed

a breakfast table. At the yard sale of another friend,

I saw this great round OAK table. I bought it, not even recognizing it was

the same table I used to own!! I’m hanging on to it now, Fo’ sure!!

Thanks for stopping by- see you next Tuesday for Tablescapes!

Brentany Part 2

Brentany Part 2

Brentany got married last Saturday…sounds like a 50′s Rock-n-Roll tune!

So on this Wedding Wednesday,  you’ll get to see more of her wedding day Top Hits.

-On second thought, this music theme is even too corny for me. ;)

So, lets look at her flowers, green Cymbidium orchids and hydrangeas…

blue and jade roses, cream stock and Vendella roses as we spin them together to

form her bridal bouquet and Mother’s corsages.

Remember the flowers we unpacked from last Monday’s delivery?

To begin, I use a hydrangea, in this case, an antique green hydrangea, from Holland:

I refer to hydrangeas as God’s bouquet holders- you insert the other flowers into

the hydrangea to build the bouquet, like so:

Continue with inserting the trimmed flowers, constantly turning in your hand

as you search for the PERFECT spot for each bloom:

this is the un-cut version, all the flowers are in, but it still

needs to be trimmed to the PERFECT round bouquet shape!

and here is the finished product- Bretany’s bridal bouquet!

Not to forget…below are photos of the Mother’s corsage and a cool artsy pic taken

by the (one of the original)  flower-child, Lindsay – cheers!!

See you next Wedding Wednesday as we show you The Flower Girl  weddings on the web!

til then- cheerio!

Autumn Harvest

Autumn Harvest

(Well, I know it doesn’t look like Autumn with this first photo)

From last week’s  Tuesdays are for Tablescapes post, I talked about the need for

white/off-white dishes in everyone’s cupboard. Well- here comes the first look at

building a beautiful table with  white dishes and some of their friends!

I started with a vintage crocheted tablecloth, which really isn’t a tablecloth at all, but a bedspread

crocheted by my Great-Grandmother- Muddie. Don’t forget to look in your bed/ linen cupboards for

table coverings, quilts are GREAT for toppers!

On first, is a discount gold charger from Hobby-Lobby,  the cost is @ 2 dollars per charger.

Next, comes my Mikasa Antique White dinner plate- followed with my Grandmommy ‘s gold

depression glass square salad plate, set at an angle.

Last of all, is a cute square plate rimmed in brown leaves,

another cheap yard sale find!! I set it at a different angle than the Depression glass plate.

What I think is cool is how the white plate no longer looks white, but has taken on a

more subdued tone.

Now- lets show you the whole tablescape….you can build on this

with little white pumpkins, pine cones leaves, golden apples , pears…the Market’s the limit!

The silverware used here is an Acorn end pattern that is my Mom’s. Plaid napkins in glass from Big Lots and

the Fitz and Floyd shakers were a gift from my  girlfriend, Christy.

The shakers sit sideways like that, so cute!

In the middle, just an olde dried centerpiece I had around the house, made

with pheasant feathers, dried roses broomweed , twigs and amaranthus…

I hope this inspires you to look around your

own house for different ways to ‘scape your table for Fall!

Thanks for stopping by -See you next Tuesday!

Brentany-Part One

Brentany-Part One

Hi fellow flower friends! Welcome to WEDDING WEDNESDAY!

Come with me as I walk you through my upcoming floral work for

this weekend’s wedding.

First comes the delivery…apparently to the wholesale folks, I’m known as

FLGIRL

(perhaps I need to get a cape and an undercover identity)

It’s always fun to open the boxes and see the flowers from all over the world!

For this wedding, I got JADE roses, BLUE roses

and  CYMBIDIUM ORCHIDS

I did not see the flowers move  when I took the picture, but they MUST have!

Next, I process the flowers, which is the industry’s way of saying to cut them

and put them in a bucket of water, then in the cooler :)

For the groom’s Bouttoniere’ … I’ll use ITALIAN RUSCUS

and the above-mentioned orchid, just one bloom.

Then, you make a “sheperd’s hook” with your floral wire and insert it into the poor

orchid’s throat. I often make a crying sound when I do this (JK)

Next, placing the RUSCUS behind and beside the orchid,

I tightly and neatly wrap it with corsage/sticky tape.

Finally, it is finished with a touch of WAXFLOWER and a couple of black boot pins.

And PRESTO!! the final product, ready to pin on the Groom.

Watch for  Brentany Part 2 -Bouquets on the next WEDDING WEDNESDAYS post.

Until then….FLGIRL is on the JOB!

Basic White

Basic White

For today’s Tuesday’s are for Tablescapes, we begin with the Basic Building Blocks for a Beautiful table- with

the first basic being WHITE DISHES:

Mine are Antique White by Mikasa, purchased at Amazon.com for a much better price than the home

or department stores. Everybody needs a set of white or even off white dishes…..in my non-expert opinion!!

The table has a cute green checked table runner, which I got in Arkansas, along with flowers in a moss

covered container. I filled the container  with grocery store Shasta daisies @ 2.95$

and verigated Pittisporum from the bush in my front yard.

Then I pulled out some moss covered balls, leftover from a wedding job…wrapped with a

ivory bow. The complete look- ideal for a salad lunch or sandwich supper!

In addition to the Mikasa dishes, there is a gravy boat and plate passed down to me from family.

(I cannot remember even if it’s from my  side or my husband’s side!)

Also- you’ll see a little cut-roses candle holder, the center rose lifts out and that’s where you

put the taper candle. It is one of a pair, and the only thing I have from my wedding.

I found them at  a flea market in Weatherford Texas I went to with a dear friend who passed away long ago.

Sorry for the detour, but I think of her whenever I use the cut rose cuties.

NOW…..for a glimpse of Basic white with Autumn Gold……

…… elements of the next Tuesdays are for Tablescapes post, where I will show how to use white dishes

as the foundation of a well-built table setting!

So POP QUIZ TIME!

How many CONSTRUCTION words are in this blog post??

A free long-stem rose to first local person who guesses right!

Tomorrow, for Wedding Wednesdays we’ll be blogging about Brentany’s wedding! Thanks for dropping by!
